MP Warns Kuwait Power Shortage As Power Cut Hits Some Areas

01 May 2024 Kuwait

Lawmakers have sounded the alarm following a recent power outage affecting parts of Nuzha, Mansouriya, and Abdullah Al-Salem. They warn that unless immediate action is taken by the government, a potential catastrophe looms this summer.

The outage, though limited, has raised concerns among legislators well in advance of the anticipated surge in electricity demand during the summer peak. With consumption projected to surpass 17,000 megawatts, a significant deficit could occur.

In 2023, electricity usage during the summer exceeded 16,300 megawatts for the first time. Projections indicate that this summer could see consumption breach the 17,000-megawatt threshold, contingent upon rising temperatures.
