Kuwaiti's Warns Labour Shortage In The Country

02 February 2021 Kuwait

Secretary-General of Kuwait Union for Domestic Labor Offices Ali Al-Shammouh had warned about the acute shortage of domestic helpers by Ramadan. He said that there is a shortage of approximately 160,000-180,000 helpers in the country.

According to him, shortage existed even prior to the coronavirus pandemic but worsened when the airport was closed during the lockdown last year. Many domestic helpers left the country following the reopening of the airport on one-way tickets.

Meanwhile, the head of the Kuwaiti Farmers Union, Abdullah Muhammad Al-Damak, has warned of the consequences of a shortage of manpower in Kuwait's area of agriculture.

He said the agriculture sector in Kuwait would be in real danger if agricultural workers continue to be prevented from returning to their farms and bringing in new labour.

Al-Damak said this is the peak time for agricultural crops but unfortunately, "we cannot find anyone to collect the product and prepare baskets to supply this product to the local market."
