Kuwaiti Domestic Workers Received 784 Million Dinars In 2021; Indians Were Top Of The List

Kuwait's domestic worker spending bill in 2021 was 784 million dinars ($2.6 billion). According to local Arabic daily citing sources familiar with the domestic labour sector, the average monthly wage for all nationalities of labour in Kuwait is 110 dinars per month, while the number of domestic workers in Kuwait by the end of 2021 was 593.64 thousand, equating to average monthly spending of 65.3 million dinars ($215 million).

According to the numbers, Kuwait spends 94 percent of its domestic worker budget (734.56 million dinars) on four primary nationalities, totalling 556.48 thousand male and female employees.

Indian domestic workers came in first, accounting for about 47 percent of spending on that sector in the past year, totalling 369 million dinars (1.2 billion dollars), for about 279.59 male and female workers, including 258.5 million dinars for men and 110.5 million dinars for women workers. Filipinos came in second, accounting for about 23 percent of total spending on the domestic labour sector, totalling 178.7 million dinars (588 million dollars)

Bangladeshis, in third place, spend 13 percent of all domestic labour expenditures, amounting to 101.4 million dinars annually; Sri Lankans, in fourth place, spend 11 percent of all domestic labour expenditures, amounting to 85.28 million dinars annually; Nepalese, in fifth place, spend about 15.11 million dinars annually; Ethiopians, in sixth place, spend 14.1 million dinars annually; and Indonesians, in seventh place, spend 3.17 million dinars annually.
