Kuwait Zeroes In On Military Supply Firms – Indian Managers Under Surveillance
After the US Department of Justice announced last December that one of its former officers was involved in obtaining a bribe from an Indian official in a Logistics Services Company to facilitate the passage of contracts to the US Army in Kuwait, as well as granting subcontracts to companies exclusively, Al-Qabas learned the government agencies had narrowed the screws on the current transactions of US military companies and dealing with them according to a new mechanism and conditions.
According to the sources, the Interior Ministry, the Public Authority of Manpower (PAM) and other concerned parties in cooperation with the American agencies have put under scrutiny visa traffickers and suspicious financial transfers, and issues of bribe involving subcontractors, which required extensive action to take legal measures against those involved in these violations.
The sources added PAM and the security personnel have drawn up an approved list of 12 companies that provide services to the US Army, and have rejected the transactions of other firms after discovering they were found involved in illegal activities, and legal measures against them, in addition to placing the ‘Indian’ managers in existing companies under surveillance after receiving complaints about their involvement in major contracts and subcontracts.
The sources pointed out the Kuwaiti and American security authorities are continuing to investigate suspicious activities about human trafficking and money laundering involving some American contracts being carried out in the country, after a series of complaints and observations were made involving US citizens who left Kuwait and other Indians who are currently working on logistics contracts
The sources also pointed out the government agencies acted after ensuring there is exploitation of labor and bringing some workers to Kuwait in exchange for money to obtain a work permit, in addition to the presence of thousands of Indian workers who entered the country to work in specific fields, and after it was found they were not qualified they were found working on American Army contracts.
The sources revealed that one of the American companies operating in the country obtained contracts worth billions of dollars to provide services for operating the American bases and civil logistical supply, and they needed thousands of workers for ten years according to the contracts, which required setting a joint mechanism to control the market and prevent visa trafficking or suspicious money transfers.
The sources added there is a careful study of these contracts as well as making sure that there are no bribes or other infringements involved, given that the available observations indicate the possibility of violating the law on ‘monopoly’, which requires the intervention of the Competition Protection Authority to be coordinated with later.
