Shortage Of Staff Is The Main Reason Behind Repeated Incidents Of Escape From Prison
With the recurrence of incidents of escape from the Department of Juvenile Welfare Home affiliated to the Ministry of Social Affairs the department will monitor and identify the weaknesses in addition to following up the behavior of the inmates especially during night shifts, reports Al-Jarida daily.
This came following two attempts since the beginning of the year – one last month a Syrian known as ‘Spiderman’ and the second, failed attempt a couple of days back.
Sources familiar with the Ministry of Social Affairs said the main reason behind the repeated incidents of escape was due to the shortage of staff working in management, especially during the night shifts which is a serious gap exploited by some inmates to escape. While the sources said that “the social welfare sector has become repellant to the national cadres, especially the Department of Juvenile Care and Family Nursery, under the Ministry of Social Affairs, the policy of replacing expatriates with national labor and the scarcity of approvals for the employment of expatriates.
“The attempts by some inmates to escape from care homes have not lived up to the phenomenon and are very limited,” she said. “During the past year, there has been one escape attempt and it was thwarted, but the sector is trying by all means not to have any escape attempts.” “The ministry has set up a team to prepare a new juvenile care center complex in the Sulaibiya which is expected to move at the beginning of 2020,” said a source
