30 March 2021 Kuwait

Kuwait National Assembly on Tuesday approved three draft laws to support businesses affected by coronavirus.

The house, discussing a host of bills after the government took a constitutional oath, approved a draft law to secure guarantees for local banks to provide financial assistance to clients whose businesses affected by the coronavirus pandemic. The entire 33 MPs attending the session approved the bill.

The parliament also agreed to postpone citizens’ installments for public and private institutions for six months to help citizens overcome the ramifications of the pandemic. The draft law allowed citizens who wish to postpone installments for the national fund for citizens facing financial difficulties, family funds, the Public Institute for Social Security, Kuwait Credit Bank, and the Public Authority for Housing Welfare, to do so.

It also allowed citizens to postpone installments for local banks, investment companies, and finance firms. Meanwhile, the parliament approved amendments to the law of visual and audio law in order to preserve the rights and freedoms of individuals.
