Kuwait Finds 200kg Of Hashish Floating In The Water
In Kuwaiti territorial waters, coastguards found 200 kilograms of suspected drug traffickers owned by suspected traffickers, local media reported.
Six abandoned bags contained the haul.
According to Al Jarida newspaper, coastguard patrols saw an object floating on the water off southern Kuwait while on routine patrol.
Six attached bags were found when they examined the object. A source told us that 200 kilos of hashish were found inside when they opened the bags.
Security authorities are investigating who was supposed to obtain the drugs, according to the source.
In Kuwait last year, Al Qabas newspaper reported that 3,000 people had been arrested in drug cases and that narcotics were seized in record amounts.
In addition to Kuwaitis and Bidoons, there are also Egyptian expatriates, Syrians, Lebanese, Indians, Bangladeshis, and Pakistanis, according to the statement.
Another 866 expatriates were deported from Kuwait after they were found to have taken drugs or owned very small amounts of drugs, which were not serious enough to warrant registration of criminal charges.
Nearly 1,700kg of hashish were seized by Kuwaiti anti-drug police last year, the largest haul in a single year.
Around 10 million drug pills were also seized, along with 30 kilograms of heroin and 200 kilograms of methamphetamine-a stimulant that is highly addictive in some regions.
Kuwait enforces tough penalties for drug crimes, including the death penalty.
