Kuwait Airways' Workers Union Protest Despite Requests To Halt It

09 January 2017 Information

Kuwait Airways’ labour union confirmed yesterday it plans to stage a sit-in today despite a statement from the firm urging them to call off their protest.

The union revealed it is protesting a violation of the rights of some Kuwaiti pilots who have reportedly lost their benefits following the carrier’s privatisation,

Kuwait Airways Company (KAC) denied any wrong doings in terms of the workers’ transfer procedures. However, the union responded by accusing the firm’s management of sending contradictory messages on whether the carrier has been fully privatised or remains under the state’s control.

Several MPs are expected to join the protest that is expected to take place outside the company’s building.

The pilots also claimed the company had been illegally forcing them to sign papers by which they become eligible to transfer to other state departments.

Secretary General of Petroleum and Petrochemical Industry Workers Union Hazim Al-Enezi said KAC should not take the issue lightly as aviation marks one of the most sensitive sectors in the state.
