Kpc Working On New Employment Formula
The Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) is working to find a new formula to deal with its foreign projects, and contribute to opening new horizons for Kuwaitis to work in the oil sector directly or indirectly, reports Al-Rai daily quoting oil sources.
The same sources revealed that a Kuwaiti-Omani agreement (tentative) stipulates that there will be opportunities to employ Kuwaiti workers in the Duqm Refinery project.
These jobs will be part of the project itself, not in the international oil company, but Kuwait’s as partner in the project. The sources pointed out that the visit by the Minister of Oil, the Minister of Electricity and Water, Dr Khalid Al-Fadhel, and the CEO of the KPC Hashim Hashem recently to Oman resulted in an agreement and understanding with the Omani officials, which would open a new door for the recruitment and employment of young Kuwaiti graduates, an approach that the sector will apply to external projects.
“If this unique experiment is successful, it will be considered and made applicable in Kuwaiti foreign investments according to the conditions of each investment,” the sources said.
The sources pointed out that the appointment of Kuwaitis at the Duqm refinery will be based on their follow-up to the refinery, just like Omani workers, according to the Omani rules and regulations.
