Jleeb Safe Haven For Illegal Residents, Menial Workers, Outlaws

05 October 2021 Kuwait

In spite of government efforts to clean the suburb of Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh of vice and all sorts of illegal activities, the region is still a hotbed of illegal activity infested by ‘menial workers and outlaws.

This is a clear indication that the government has failed to find radical solutions to its chronic problems even after forming a special committee in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic to flush out illegal residents and violators of the law who see the area as a hideout and a safe haven.

The area lacks hygiene and in the midst of sewage water flowing from every nook and corner hundreds of commercial activities and restaurants which more often than not sell food make fast money. Most of these establishments do not have a licence and lack lowest levels of cleanliness and occupational safety.

The Al-Jaridah accompanied the Jleeb Joint Committee, led by the Public Authority for Manpower, during the inspection tour of the region, which resulted in the arrest of dozens of workers – residence and labor law violators and absconders.

The head of the committee, Muhammad Al-Dhafiri, told Al-Jarida that the successive inspection campaigns conducted by the committee since the middle of last month until date, resulted in the arrest of 107 violators of residence and labor laws — 56 working in the private sector and 34 domestic workers in addition to 17 who are staying illegally in the country.

During the inspection tour the committee members discovered makeshift wooden houses on the roofs of some buildings.
