Jail Upheld For Blogger

17 October 2018 Crime News

The Cassation Court on Monday upheld the verdict of the First Instance and Appeals courts to imprison blogger Abdullah Fairoz for five years with hard labor in the State security case filed against him for offending the entity of HH the Amir. The Public Prosecution charged the blogger for posting statements deemed offensive to the entity of the Amir on Twitter.

Petition dismissed: The Court of Appeals dismissed the petition filed by a citizen who was ordered to pay KD 50,000 to his compatriot. According to the petitioner, he found out about the court order to pay KD 50,000 to a compatriot only by chance. He said he did not receive any notice although his contact details are incorporated in his civil ID number. Attorney Khawlah Al-Hassawi, lawyer for the petitioner, argued that his client ensured the notification was sent to the complainant, in addition to the court order and court surveyor who evaluated the amount to be paid by the complainant. He also pointed out that the complainant did not deny his signature on the debt order and failed to inform whether he lifted the whole or partial obligation in implementing the court order.
