Jail Director, Interior Ministry And Prisoner Fined For Swindling Kuwaiti

15 November 2022 Crime News

It was the first time in history that a court obligated the Ministry of Interior, the director of the Central Prison, and one of the prisoners impersonating a member of the ruling family to pay KD 55,000 as compensation to a citizen who had been scammed and defrauded via telephone in his cell in the Central Prison.

Lawyer Ayed Al-Rashidi, representing the plaintiff, accused the Ministry of Interior, the Director of the Central Prison, and the prisoner who defrauded his client by calling him daily inside the Central Prison and claiming he was a "sheikh" from the ruling family, according to the case file. He blamed the Ministry of Interior and the Central Prison director for the shortcomings in their work. During his interview, he asked who allowed the accused to possess a mobile phone while in prison, since the accused misled his client into investing in a major project by claiming that he was a member of the ruling family.

On several charges of fraud, impersonating prominent figures from the ruling family and businessmen while in Central Prison, swindling celebrities and fashionistas, as well as booking a private jet for a woman he had promised to marry, the Court of Cassation sentenced the prisoner to a ten-year jail term.
