Iom Honors Kuwait's Min. Al-sabeeh For Upholding Human, Labor Rights

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has honored Kuwait's Minister of Social Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh in recognition of her role in promoting human and labor rights.

Al-Sabeeh, also Minister of State for Economic Affairs, is a pioneering figure in her domain and her wise leadership is clear in development projects, said MOI Director General William Lacy Swing during a ceremony held at the UN House in Kuwait to honor Al-Sabeeh Sunday evening. Swing also congratulated Al-Sabeeh and Kuwait on the human rights achievements.

He expressed great appreciation of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's role in raising awareness about humanitarian situation of refugees and his sincere efforts to iron out inter-GCC differences.

He added that he was delighted that his current and sixth visit to Kuwait coincides with the third anniversary of the UN honoring and proclamation of His Highness the Amir as a "humanitarian leader." For her part, Kuwait's UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative Zineb Touimi-Bejelloun congratulated Minister Al-Sabeeh on the honoring.

She lauded Al-Sabeeh's significant role in implementing the State's development plans as well as her efforts to achieve sustainable development and materializing Kuwait's 2035 development vision.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Acting Minister of Information Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Sabah extolled Minister Al-Sabeeh contributions to enhance human rights principles and laws and her commitment to the Kuwait-signed international human and labor rights treaties and covenants.

Sheikh Mohammad, who was deputized to the ceremony by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, said he is looking forward to the continuation of the fruitful partnership between the IOM and Kuwait.

He noted that the IOM Executive Board would consider in its meeting in November, Kuwait's bid to join the organization as an observer. Meanwhile, Minister Al-Sabeeh applauded the IOM development and humanitarian programs. She affirmed Kuwait's eagerness to give impetus to the strong partnership between humanitarian organizations, particularly the IOM.

She also shed lights on several cooperation programs between Kuwait and the IOM, especially in capacity-building and decision-making support domains.
