International Human Rights Organizations Uses The Term Domestic Workers Instead Housemaids

29 November 2017 Kuwait

Kuwait Society for Human Rights is baffled by the inhumane terms being used to refer to expatriates in the country, such as ‘servants’ and ‘housemaids;’ indicating these are derogatory terms and the international human rights organizations uses the term ‘domestic workers’ instead of calling them ‘housemaids.’

;

In a press statement, the society affirmed that domestic workers are not servants, instead they are domestic employees (workers) and the terms ‘servants’ or ‘maids’ were historically used derogatively towards those who take up domestic related jobs despite playing a major role in the house of a Kuwaiti and a Gulf national in general.
