India Variant To Prevail For Some Time

Minister of Health Sheikh Dr. Basel Al- Humoud Al-Sabah affirmed on Tuesday that facing variants of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) begin with adherence to identical measures for such infections with the mutated virus. The minister, in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on sidelines of inaugurating an office of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Kuwait, indicated that COVID-19 continues to breed diverse mutations, nevertheless combating each strains warrants adopting same health precautions. He has stressed on necessity of taking vaccines, maintaining physical distancing, wearing the mask, cleaning the hands, not venturing out except for necessities, also traveling only for pressing needs. The MoH is currently examining such cases that have been discovered, he added. The Delta variant, also known as the Indian strain, is expected to prevail in the world for some time, he added. Official Spokesperson of the MoH Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad announced on Monday it was confirmed a number of persons were diagnosed as having been infected with the Indian variant locally. Pfizer’s CEO is expressing confidence about the efficacy of his company’s COVID- 19 vaccine against the Delta variant, which was first discovered in India and has America’s top scientists sounding the alarm.

Comfortable
“I feel quite comfortable that we cover it,” Pfizer CEO and Chairman Albert Bourla told CBS News’ Jan Crawford. “We will not need a special vaccine for it. The current vaccine should cover it”. In the latest figures of Covid-19, the US confirmed 34,322,599 cases, and 615,086 fatalities. In coordination with the Cabinet, the health authorities have decided to vaccinate children within the age group of 12 to 16 years in the month of August, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting high-level government sources. They affirmed the keenness of the Cabinet to finish vaccinating this category before the start of the next academic year, adding that the vaccine to be administered to them is Pfizer, and the necessary stock will be arranged before the start of the vaccination campaign.

The Kuwaiti Cabinet held its weekly meeting on Monday at Seif Palace, under the chairmanship of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, urging citizens and expats to avoid gatherings for their safety. At the beginning, the Cabinet listened to a presentation made by Minister of Health Sheikh Dr. Basel Al-Sabah on the latest developments relating to the coronavirus locally and globally, Foreign Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al- Sabah said after the meeting.

Rise
Sheikh Bassel highlighted the noticeable rise in the coronavirus cases over the last period and those who are receiving treatment at hospitals, referring to people who did not abide by health and preventive measures mainly pertaining to social distancing in public places. He said this such acts would harm all and lead to the spread of the pandemic, offering results of viral genes tests conducted recently by the Ministry of Health that confirmed some Delta mutated cases spreading in more than 60 countries all over the world, Sheikh Ahmad Nasser said. The Cabinet lauded awareness of people and their keenness on abiding by health requirements and avoiding gatherings. It warned at the same time that there are some who do not stick to these measures over the past period, stressing that the society’s responsibility depends on raising awareness towards the virus’ risks. Furthermore, the Cabinet urged people to abide by instructions issued by the Ministry of Health including the gatherings for the safety of all to control the spread of the virus. It extolled the high turnout of people to receive anti-virus vaccines in order to reach the desired societal immunity.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet discussed the recommendation by the economic affairs committee on the fifth annual report of the national committee of combating money laundering and financing terrorism that includes the most outstanding challenges facing the committee. It also focused on the political affairs in light of the latest developments on the political arena on both Arab and regional levels. In this regard, the Cabinet expressed Kuwait’s strong condemnation of Houthis’ continued targeting of civilians on Saudi Arabia that were recently two drones launched on Asir Province and Khamees Mushait, but the coalition intercepted and destroyed them.
