Illegals Total 115,000
The number of people violating the residence law has reached 115,000 including 5,000 Syrians and Iraqis who have entered the country on visit visas but have not left the country, reports Al-Rai daily quoting security sources.
The same sources said the number of violators has increased significantly over the past two years due to several factors, including the decisions taken by the General Directorate for Residence Affairs due to which a large number of expatriates have been affected.
The sources explained one of those decisions was to activate the decision regarding the passport data as a result of which a large number of the expatriates were unable to pay fines and as a result fell into the category of residence law violators. Another decision was not to stamp the dependence residence for those above 15 years and failure to get a job or another sponsor led to this category of people violating the residence law.
