Health Procedures For Expatriates Updated
Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi, Minister of Health, approved a ministerial decision stating that a newly arrived residency applicant in the country is considered medically unfit if a laboratory examination for hepatitis C shows an “indeterminate” result.
The use of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test is prohibited in these cases, and applicable decisions and regulations are applied accordingly.
This applies to expatriate residents who have two indeterminate results from a laboratory test for antibodies to hepatitis C, with at least four weeks between tests. They are allowed to undergo a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test.
Anyone whose PCR test yields a positive result is considered medically unfit, and the applicable decisions and regulations will be applied accordingly. If the PCR test yields a negative result, their residency will be renewed for a year, and the PCR test will be repeated after the year has passed. If the test is negative again, they are considered medically fit.
It is worth noting that this decision aligns with the Council of Ministers’ decision, which outlines procedures for handling positive or negative cases, adding health supervision for indeterminate cases.
