Gun Battle Erupts Between Kuwaiti Citizens And Somali Expats
Kuwaiti authorities have launched a large-scale investigation into a gun battle that reportedly erupted this week between Kuwaiti citizens and Somali expatriates.
The fight took place in the governorate of Al Jahara, about 50 kilometres west of Kuwait City and started with an altercation between a 22-year-old Kuwaiti man and a Somali aged 20, according to Al Anba newspaper reported.
Soon, people from both sides gathered and exchanged blows amid shots were fired, it added.
Police, who rushed to the site, found a gun and empty bullet casings used in the dawn fight, according to the paper.
Police patrols
The Interior Ministry’s Operations Room had received an alert past midnight about a quarrel and gunfire outside a mosque in Al Jahara, a security source said.
Police patrols went to the site and brought the situation under control, the source added.
“An unknown person had shot fire during the fight that also witnessed damage of the two main men involved in the quarrel,” the source added, referring to the Kuwaiti and Somali who started the incident.
The cause of the fight was not clear. Police launched a manhunt for the shooter, the paper said without giving figures about arrests or potential casualties.
