Goods Free From Carcinogens – Committee Formed To Tackle Flasks

The head of the Federation of Consumer Cooperative Societies Khalid Al-Hudaiban has denied rumors published in the social media about the presence of toxic substances inside tea and coffee thermos imported from the Republic of China, reports Al-Anba daily.

He added the National Committee for Consumer Protection met with the concerned authorities at the Ministry of Commerce, headed by the Minister to look into the issue and said none of the products have been withdrawn from the market.

This happened following earlier reports quoting sources which said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had alerted the goods monitoring agents in Kuwait about the spread of carcinogens in some Chinese products and other goods imported by Kuwait from various countries and called on the concerned authorities to play an active role to help prevent the entry of such goods.

The sources had pointed out the warning was issued by the Foreign Ministry at the request of the Kuwaiti Embassy in Beijing, which said: “Based on the embassy’s duties in the follow-up on everything related to the Kuwaiti-Chinese relations, and the recent information on the presence of carcinogens in some goods exported by China to the State of Kuwait,” and the most recent examples are tea and coffee thermos mugs.

The embassy had suggested that a committee be formed to look into this issue in coordination with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry to prevent the export of any kind of such goods to the State of Kuwait because they contain carcinogens or radioactive materials.

The Public Authority for Industry formed a committee consisting of representatives from Kuwait University, Public Authority for Applied Education and Training, Public Authority for Food and Nutrition, and Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry to lay down the conditions and criteria in order to meet the health requirements for cold or hot liquid flasks, reports Al-Anba daily quoting sources.
