Eu Commends Amir’s Wisdom
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of European Commission Federica Mogherini on Sunday hailed His Highness the Amir’s leadership and wisdom. “I would like to thank you for your leadership, wisdom and I know it is not easy times,” Mogherini said in a press statement following a meeting with His Highness the Amir.
She also appreciated the attitude and efforts of Kuwait to defuse tensions and promote cooperation in the region. “We admire and support the attitude and the efforts that Kuwait is deploying to invite everybody to calm rationality to deescalate a tense situation and to provide space for cooperation in the region that is also the European Union’s position and we support this effort in all possible ways,” she said.
On her visit to Kuwait, the EU foreign policy chief said: “I pay my third visit in Kuwait. I wanted to come before the end of my mandate, I am finishing in a few months but I am very proud that before I finish my mandate, we inaugurated this morning the European Embassy here in Kuwait.” She went on saying: “I can only imagine the worries that you have, I think we share some of them but I want to thank you because here in Kuwait I always felt and always feel at home. Even most importantly, we are always on the same side. So, we will have a full diplomatic presence here in Kuwait City. That is very important and is also the fruit of a very good friendship we have had.”
“I was just received by His Highness during my third visit here in Kuwait. We had, as always, an excellent exchange, first of all on our very good bilateral cooperation we have in Kuwait and the European Union,” she said.
She hoped that the opening of the European Union delegation in Kuwait would help in increasing and deepening even further bilateral cooperation in different sectors. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said on Sunday that the opening of the European Union’s (EU) delegation (embassy) in the country is a culmination of the successful cooperation between the two sides.
The EU is a key partner in trade, investment, energy, education, health, and many other sectors, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said in a statement on the sidelines of his participation at the opening of the delegation. Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled stressed Kuwait’s keenness on this partnership, noting that EU’s presence in Kuwait would offer wide venues of cooperation.
Kuwait and EU had made great strides in the dialogue on issues such as security, energy and human resources development, said Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, pointing to memorandum of understandings and deals signed on such levels. Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled commended the participation of the EU during the past few years in the donors’ conferences for Syria and the Iraq, which were hosted and co-chaired by Kuwait. Kuwait is counting on EU’s efforts in the region to bring peace, he said, adding that Kuwait shared such responsibility with the EU.
