Eid Al Adha Holidays , Haj Pilgrims Fans Heavy Rush At Kuwait Airport
An estimated 65,000 passengers are expected to depart Kuwait International Airport and spend Eid Al-Adha holidays overseas. Majority of them are flying to Dubai, Turkey, London, Jeddah, Cairo and Meshad, reports Al-Anba daily quoting an informed source.
He stressed that the abovementioned travelers do not include the pilgrims who have been departing for Saudi Arabia for Hajj rites. The source affirmed that the General Department for Civil Aviation (DGCA) and other relevant authorities have been doing their best to ensure hitch-free boarding procedures, stressing that the congestion being experienced in the airport is due to the fact that the holidays coincide with the annual pilgrimage.
He declared that there are flights to many countries across the world, including some that are facing political challenges, indicating that the airport has been extremely congested for the past two days to the extent that parking vehicles is difficult and roads leading to the airport are experiencing traffic gridlock.
Meanwhile, Deputy Airport Comptroller Habib Bu Abbas told Aljarida newspaper that the DGCA is fully ready to receive passengers who are traveling overseas for Eid Al-Adha holidays. He explained that the authority is closely coordinating with the General Traffic Department to overcome the traffic gridlock.
Similar arrangement has been made with the General Department for Immigration to ensure that adequate number of officers is present to carry out the immigration duties and the support team from the General Department for Civil Aviation is on 24-hour standby. Those officials are also exerting efforts to make sure that pilgrims are treated with utmost priority.
Bu Abbas indicated that about 145-150 flights are now landing in the airport daily, and 25 flights for pilgrims are scheduled for three days. He declared that an average of 48,000 passengers use the airport daily, adding that the busiest times at the airport are the current period, end of summer vacation and Eid holidays as well as the period of arrival of pilgrims.
Meanwhile, Director of Human Resources at Ministry of Education Saud Al-Juwaizri disclosed that about 11 percent of the employees at the ministry headquarters and all six educational zones were absent on Thursday, says Al-Seyassah.
Ministries in Kuwait usually record high rate of absenteeism among employees a day or two prior to the actual date when the Eid Al-Adha holidays begin. Al-Juwaizri declared that the rate of absenteeism seemed normal and did not affect the work, considering the fact that this period coincides with the summer vacation, Hajj season and Eid Al-Adha holidays.
He indicated that other absentees in those offices were those on summer vacation. Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Development and Activities Faisal Maqseed declared that the efforts of senior officials in the ministry headquarters and educational zones during the summer vacation affirm their commitment to growth, creativity and diversity for presenting the best programs and meaningful activities.
He added that they have excluded conventional activities from the premises of the evening school clubs. Al-Maqseed, who doubles as the Director of Evening School Clubs, revealed that the activities enrich the social development of the participating male and female students and widen the scope of their scientific and literary cognition. He indicated that this reflects positively in the rate of benefits for academic and scientific future.
