E-visa For 52 Countries Bid To Promote Kuwait Tourism
Director General of Residency Affairs General Department in the Interior Ministry Major General Talal Al-Ma’arafi met several diplomatic officials of European Union member nations whose citizens are benefiting from the e-visa service launched recently.
Also present in the meeting were Deputy Director General of the Residency Affairs General Department Brigadier Abdullah Al-Hajiri and Adel Hussein Al-Jassam from European Desk Department in Kuwait’s Foreign Affairs Ministry. In a press statement, the ministry disclosed the objective of the meeting was to brief the representatives of the EU countries on the advantages of the new system which is simple, time and effort saving.
The department issues about 100 e-visas during working hours daily and the transactions take about 48 hours to complete. Al-Ma’arafi explained Kuwait has sanctioned five windows for issuing tourist visas: through the Residency Affairs General Department and its affiliates in the six governorates; Kuwait’s foreign consuls and embassies; hotels, companies and commercial institutions; upon arrival at any port of entry – whether land, sea or air; and the e-Visa system. “The e-Visa system is in line with the ministry’s vision on the advancement of security services and to benefit from the latest technological developments in simplifying visa procedures.
The system is part of a widescale strategy to upgrade and speed up State services provided to citizens and expatriates,” Al-Ma’arafi narrated. He pointed out that the new system corresponds with the supreme leadership’s directive to transform Kuwait into a global financial and commercial hub in a bid to catch up with the advancement witnessed in various aspects, hence, the need for easily accessible electronic services.
He said the instant visa is granted to citizens of 52 States, including expatriates in GCC countries whose residencies are valid for not less than six months. He added the special service is offered to people engaged in 13 professions by logging on to the ministry’s website, www.moi.gov.kw, so it is no longer necessary to visit Kuwait’s embassies or consulates for verification.
