Ctc Cancels Granting Priority To National Products
The Central Tenders Committee (CTC) has decided to cancel the granting of priority to national products in government procurement, reports Al-Rai daily.
A familiar source told the daily, the CTC board of directors has informed the government about the cancellation of their previous decision, which included the request to comply with the decision No. 633/2018 of the minister of commerce and industry regarding giving priority to government purchases products of national origin.
The decision of the minister of commerce stated that “national products shall be given preference in prices over their counterparts of foreign products, as well as from those products of national origin when they are in conformity with the specifications and conditions and the prices provided are not less than the prices offered for similar foreign products or of national origin conforming to specifications by 15%.”
The source expressed “fears that this decision will cause significant damage to the national industries that are trying to compete with foreign products,” saying the decision came as a surprise because no reasons have been specified.
