Covid-19: No Blood Clot Cases From Oxford-astrazeneca Vaccine In Kuwait

18 March 2021 Coronavirus

On Wednesday, Kuwait’s Ministry of Health announced that there have been no reported cases of blood clotting amongst those that have taken the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.

The announcement came after 10 European countries have suspended administrating the Oxford vaccine after reports found that some people that took the UK-manufactured vaccine had negative side effects, mainly blood clotting.

Kuwait’s Ministry of Health stated that the vaccines being administered have been safe and there has not been any reports of severe negative side effects.

Currently, the Oxford vaccine and the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine have received emergency use approval in Kuwait and are being administered dependent on the doses that have arrived. It is unclear how many people received the Oxford vaccine, but between both vaccines over 400,000 residents and citizens have been vaccinated.

Eight shipments

So far, Kuwait has received eight shipments of the Pfizer vaccine and one of the Oxford vaccine. The quantity of the two most recent Pfizer shipments were not disclosed, but as for the first six shipments a total of 550,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine arrived in Kuwait since December, with 150,000 in the first shipment and 100,000 in every other shipment following.

As for the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, Kuwait has received one shipment which contained around 200,000 doses. A second shipment is expected to arrive next month.

It is expected that the COVID-19 vaccination committee at the Ministry of Health will review the results from Johnson and Johnson vaccine trials and will authorize it for emergency use soon.
