Court Quashes 3 Year Jail, Acquits Kuwaiti Of Stealing 43 Rolex Watches
The Misdemeanor Court has canceled the verdict issued by a lower court which sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to three-year imprisonment with hard labor. The court instead acquitted him from the charge of stealing 43 luxury wristwatches of the brand “Rolex” worth half million dinars, reports Al-Anba daily.
Reportedly, one of the relatives of the suspect caught him stealing from his house. The complainant’s son later discovered that the suspect was wearing one of his watches on his wrist.
6 docs acquitted of fraud: The Criminal Court presided over by Judge Walid Al- Kandari acquitted six doctors of Ministry of Health who were accused of forgery and theft of public funds. The lawsuit was filed by Public Prosecution based on the request of Ministry of Interior.
The six doctors were accused of signing reports out of their specialization for a number of citizens, which enabled the latter to receive overseas medical treatments illegally.
The lawsuit was filed after investigations were carried out by the deputy head of Forgery Confrontation Department at Ministry of Interior, which revealed that all reports of the specialized medical committees were fake and were not issued by Sabah Hospital as well as the seals and signatures on the reports were fake. Lawyer Ali Al-Wawan, representing the fifth defendant, said the investigations were not serious and were in violation of the relevant laws. He insisted that the statement issued by the fourth defendant against his client is not true and cannot be taken into consideration.
Lawyer Al-Wawan highlighted the lack of evidences to support the allegations against his client, adding that the Public Prosecution failed to support the charges with physical evidences.
The court, after issuing its verdict, stated that the acquittal of the defendants was based on the fact that the errors attributed to them are administrative. It stressed that the relevant sector in the concerned ministry can investigate the issue, adding that the investigations conducted so far prove that the cases sent overseas for medical treatment based on approval of the defendants were found to be deserving of the treatment
