Court Lifts Ban – We’re Bedouns
The Court of Appeals lifted the security ban that prevented a bedoun and his family from renewing their security identification cards. The higher court cancelled the decision of the First Instance Court which had earlier dismissed the lawsuit filed by the bedoun.
Case files indicate that when the plaintiff applied for renewal of his security card at the Central System for Remedying the Status of Illegal Residents (CSRSIR), he was surprised to find out that a security ban was imposed on him because of his Iraqi origins and he is registered in Iraqi records.
His security card was withdrawn and he was prevented from renewing the card as well as the members of his family. Lawyer for the bedoun, Attorney Nassar Al-Sarheed, pointed out the error in the decision of the First Instance Court.
He argued his client was registered in the 1965, 1970 and 1985 censuses and he was born and got married in Kuwait. He said all the children of his client were born in Kuwait, so they are bedouns. He added the certifi- cate provided by CSRSIR stating that his client is registered in Iraqi records is nothing but a copy which has no authorized signatures and it is not authorized by Iraqi or Kuwaiti authorities
