Cost Of Healthcare Increased Per Capita Over Last 5 Years
A report issued by the Ministry of Health revealed that the cost of healthcare per capita in 5 years has increased from KD 258 to KD 345 per year, reports Al-Anba daily.
The report, published by the daily which covered the period from 2012 to 2016, said the heart disease and accidents, especially road accidents, and tumors are one of the main causes of death during these five years in Kuwait, saying the deaths recorded among citizens were more than the expatriates. The report pointed out the death rate for men dying from heart diseases and traffic accidents are higher than women, while the mortality rate was higher in women than men in ‘malignant tumors’ among both the Kuwaitis and expatriates.
The report pointed out that the infant mortality rate decreased from 7.7 to 7.6 per 1,000 births during the 5 years. The report explained the main cause of death was premature birth and low weight at birth, as well as other major causes such as congenital malformations of different body parts, where Kuwaitis rated higher than the expatriates.
The report included a decline in the rate of doctors per 1,000 people over five years from 2.7 to 2.4, with a rise in the proportion of population per doctor from 369 to 423. According to the report, there has been a decline in the rate of beds per 1,000 people from 2.1 to 1.9 over the past five years, giving an indicator of the population rate per bed from 478 to 515.
