Coronavirus Is Receding With Decrease In Occupancy Rate In Intensive Care And Covid Wards

23 December 2020 Coronavirus

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad confirmed the decline of the Coronavirus in Kuwait, according to the figures and data, in terms of hospital admission and cases in intensive care, and the number of coronavirus infections in relation to swabs, Al Rai daily reported. The consultant of children, infectious diseases and rheumatism, Dr. Khaled Al-Saeed revealed that a woman who wishes to be vaccinated must stay away from pregnancy for a period of two months, as a precaution.

In a press conference held in the evening, Al-Sanad said that the occupancy rate in the Covid 19 wards in all hospitals in the country ranges between 8 and 10 percent, while the occupancy rate of intensive care in all hospitals ranges between 10 and 12 percent, compared to 45 percent which was reached at the height of the global epidemic.”

He pointed out that “some people were non-compliant with regulations, which have been observed through gatherings held in the past period, and I hope that they will not contribute to worsening of the epidemiological situation in the coming period,” and stressed the need to adhere to health measures.

On the mutation of the virus, he pointed out that “viruses always mutate and change with time, and the new strain has raised concerns over its ability to move from person to person quickly.”

For his part, consultant for children, infectious diseases and rheumatology, Dr. Khaled Al-Saeed said that Kuwait is on the right path in facing this epidemic, with the low occupancy rate in hospitals and intensive care.

Al-Saeed explained that the virus strains are many, because it multiplies quickly, and accordingly, genetic errors may be formed on a daily basis, and in different places of the spinal protein.” He explained that the speed of spread of the new strain is equivalent to about 1.5 compared to the old strain, but it does not mean that the resulting symptoms are severe and this is a good thing. The presence of this strain will not affect the effectiveness of the vaccine, because the vaccine stimulates the body to secrete many antibodies to attack different parts of the spinal protein.”

He mentioned that “this strain was known to the British from the month of September, although it was registered in this month, as it began to spread in the past three months, to the point that it currently represents about 30 percent of the strains discovered in southern Britain.”

Al-Saeed stressed that “the vaccine is safe and does not cause serious side effects,” denying strongly that it may cause admission to hospital, lead to death, or cause infertility.

And he indicated that it has been proven in studies, and was given to more than two million people in several countries, which is why it is considered safe and the side effects are pain at the needle site or slight heat, or slight weakness in the body, and sensitivity in people who have had this anaphylaxis before.

Pointing to the people who should avoid the vaccine in the beginning, he stated they are the breastfeeding women, pregnant women and those under the age of 16 years, because the studies did not include this type of people. He explained that women who want to be vaccinated must not be pregnant for two months, after taking the vaccine as an extra precaution and not because there is a risk, calling for all to be beware of rumors.
