Concerns Arise Over Medical College Admissions For Next Academic Year

24 March 2024 Education

As the Kuwait University Council gathers to discuss the admission plan for the 2024-2025 academic year, concerns loom over the availability of seats in medical colleges. The proposed admission plan suggests only 190 seats, with 150 allocated to the Faculty of Medicine and a mere 40 to the Faculty of Dentistry.

This scarcity of admission seats raises alarms, especially considering the increasing number of students and the country's demand for medical professionals. Despite the presence of a significant number of professors in these colleges, the limited number of seats remains a persistent issue.

Former officials from medical colleges reveal plans to double admissions in medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy, aligning with development goals. However, they emphasize the need for increased coordination to avoid last year's situation, where many high-performing students were denied admission due to seat shortages.

To avert a crisis in university admissions, three key demands are emphasized: increasing admission seats, aligning with development plans, and providing alternative pathways for students.
