Complaints Against Mobile Grocery Trucks Ruining Residential Areas
A rise in the number of mobile grocery trucks in private residential areas has created chaos in areas and sown displeasure among the residents, Al-Rai daily reported. Many such grocery trucks park in areas near houses in large numbers, causing traffic congestions on the main roads, as well as ruining the surrounding sights.
Residents also complained about these mobile trucks carrying generators that make loud annoying noises, in addition to the traffic hazards from the parked grocery trucks on sidewalks and roads, which poses a real threat to everyone. This is especially when the grocery store owner or customers stand on the road during the buying of groceries, which blocks the roads.
A number of residents told Al-Rai that “the view of grocery store trucks is unsightly, and the goods, foods and beverages that they sell are uncontrolled. Some grocery stores sell prohibited items such as energy drinks and cigarettes to young people, along with generating waste that is strewn around inappropriately around the place.”
The residents called for getting rid of this phenomenon widely spread in residential areas, especially since many of these grocery store trucks do not meet health requirements and pose traffic risks. They stressed the need to follow up and monitor foodstuffs sold on these grocery store trucks, explaining that some of these items are not authorized for sale. They also pointed to a lack of maintaining safety standards during purchase, and a lack of hygiene, as some of these groceries do smell off.
