Closure Of Farmhouses: Authorities Planning To Open License For Agricultural Tourism

14 November 2021 Kuwait

The Public Authority for Agriculture and Fish Resources will soon consider allowing entertainment activity at the farms to promote farm tourism in the country. According to local Arabic daily Al-Rai, the Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development Shaya Al-Shaya had directed the executive body of PAAFR to re-open the forms for recreational activities.

Earlier last week, the authorities had closed down three farmhouses in the Abdali area for carrying out entertainment activities without a license at its premise. However, this decision was met with widespread rejection. The public opined that in light of the lack of recreational projects in the country, these parks are an important tributary for tourism and agriculture in the country.

The authority had warned a number of farms that carry out activities in violation of what is stipulated in the contracts. According to officials, these lands are owned by the state. They have been allocated for a specific purpose: agriculture and livestock development. The recreational activities in some farms, such as restaurants and other commercial activities, violate the terms of the contract and the law.

The Al-Rai daily reported that the Public Authority for Agriculture submitted a project to issue licenses for tourist parks in agricultural holdings in the areas of Abdali, Al-Wafra and Kabd area to develop agricultural tourism. The Board of Directors of the Public Authority for Agriculture will meet in the coming days with the leaders of the administration and the Kuwait Municipality to obtain their approval to open the door for licenses to establish tourism activities in agricultural holdings, the report added.
