Cancellation Of Street Vendors' Work Permits

The Supreme Committee for Addressing Demographics is working on cancelling the work permits issued to street vendors to reduce the number of marginal workers in the country.

Officials find that street vendors burden state services without providing any benefits to the market, especially since they work for themselves. The work permits for street vendors is also a gateway to visa trade. In addition, cooperative societies and central markets already cater to the same needs of the public as street vendors.

According to official sources, there are thousands of expatriates working in these businesses with Manpower Authority work permits. 5,000 work permits can be canceled if the Supreme Committee for the Treatment of Demographics approves their cancellation.
