Bangladesh Government Opens Investigation On Its Mp For Human Trafficking
The Bangladesh government has announced that it will ask the Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the allegations raised Kuwait’s Arabic daily Al Qabas for a Bangladeshi Member of Parliament accused in cases related to human trafficking reports Al Qabas.
The Bangladeshi newspaper, Dhaka Tribune, reported that the Secretary-General of the ruling party in Bangladesh announced that he would ask the Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the matter, reiterating the position of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on fighting corruption.
The government stated, according to the newspaper, that it would take legal steps against the accused prosecutor, if the allegations related to his involvement in human trafficking were proven to be true.
The newspaper quoted the Minister of Transport and Bridges as telling reporters: “Legal measures will be taken if there is any complaint of corruption against him.”
The newspaper reported that these statements came after the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Qabas revealed that a member of Parliament was accused of smuggling people to Kuwait. The newspaper reported that it had contacted the Bangladeshi embassy in Kuwait and learned through it the name of the accused deputy, and also conveyed statements to the Bangladeshi ambassador in Kuwait who said: “The reports did not mention the name of the deputy … and they refused to give me this name.”
