Ban On Importing Fruits And Vegetables From Other Parts Of India
The Supreme Committee for Food Safety in the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition has recommended lifting the ban on importing fruits and vegetables from other parts of India; while the ban on importing fresh and frozen fruits from Kerala, India should remain in effect until further notice due to the Nipah virus outbreak.
The authority held an emergency meeting recently to discuss the latest developments regarding the virus. During the meeting, the authority announced receiving a letter from the undersecretary of the Health Ministry stating that as per the recent recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), it is not allowed to take procedures to ban trading with India while stressing the need to wash the imported fruits and vegetables before receiving them. The authority also received a letter from the Indian Ministry of Agriculture, affirming that India has taken measures to stop the shipment of fresh fruits and vegetables from Kerala.
