Astrazeneca And Pfizer Are Effective Against The Mutated Strains Of Coronavirus

20 March 2021 Coronavirus

A new study revealed that the AstraZeneca vaccine, which was produced jointly with the University of Oxford in Britain, and the Pfizer vaccine, are very effective against the new Brazilian strain of Coronavirus, Al Qabas reported.

The research conducted by the University of Oxford found that the AstraZeneca vaccine and the Pfizer vaccine offer protection against the P.1 strain, which first appeared in the Brazilian Manaus region, according to a British newspaper, The Daily Mail.

The vaccines that 25 million Britons have received so far have proven to be very effective against the “Kent strain” of the virus circulating in the United Kingdom, which reduced deaths and hospitalization rates by more than 85 percent.

Scientists were initially concerned that the Brazilian strain, P.1, would be resistant to vaccines, because it contains a number of worrisome mutations, in addition to those it shares with the British Kent strain.
