04 September 2023 Crime News

The defendants in the Army Fund case will appear in the first session of their trial on Sept 24 at the "Cassation Court" after rejecting the court's response request. Simultaneously, the criminal courts will also issued a verdict on the same date in the vote-buying case related to the 2022 National Assembly elections in the third constituency, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

In the "Fund" case, the court is deliberating the appeal of the Public Prosecution against the acquittal of His Highness Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak, former Minister of Defense and Interior Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah, and others. The prosecution is seeking their conviction and the annulment of the acquittal. In this context, the Criminal Court convened its third session to try former MP Sa’adoun Hammad, a candidate from the third constituency, alongside three members of his electoral campaign including two female citizens in the vote-buying case.

It has been decided to postpone the verdict until the 24th of this month. During Sunday’s session, Hammad refuted the accusation of mediating in the purchase of electoral votes in his favor. The participants in his campaign, a man and two women, likewise denied aiding him by buying votes. In one case, a female voter denied accepting 1,000 dinars in exchange for selling her vote, while in another case, a female citizen denied any involvement in the crime.
