Aqsa Mosque Reopens After 70 Days Of Shutdown
The Muslim world’s third holiest mosque of Al-Aqsa reopened on Sunday after 70 days of closure due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, known as COVID-19.
As hundreds of Palestinian worshippers attended Al-Fajr (dawn) prayers, Head of the Islamic Higher Council in occupied Jerusalem and Imam of Al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Ekrema Sabri congratulated worshippers on the reopening of the mosque, urging them to follow relevant health guidelines, mainly physical distancing.
Sabri also called on people who had health problems or symptoms not to attend prayers.
The Palestinian government had decided to end COVID-19 measures, including the reopening of places of worshipping.
Situated in East Jerusalem, the holy site closed its doors in March as part of measures and precautions in a bid to rein in the spread of the globally spreading virus
