Driving License Of 8,000 Expats Cancelled
According to the General Directorate of Traffic, 8,000 expat driving licenses were revoked in the first half of this year due to non-compliance with the driving license requirements. In addition, 50 Kuwaiti driving licenses were denied because of their disabilities.
The driving licenses of thousands of expats were withdrawn as conditions for acquiring a driving license are salary, profession, and university degree, but after changing the job title and lowering the salary, the license was automatically taken away.
Sources informed us that the Ministry of Interior has instructed to restrict the issuance of Kuwait driving licenses to those who meet all the conditions. Integrating the systems between the ministries and sharing the data has significantly reduced the possibility of manipulation when obtaining a driving license. A system that automatically reviews all the driving licenses granted to expats, including those who had previously obtained driving licenses and changed their professions.
After completing their studies, expat students whose driving licenses have been blocked by the Traffic Department. Also, domestic workers who absconded from sponsors and worked as home delivery workers have been revoked, according to Al Rai. Automated systems have made it more difficult to manipulate in order to obtain or renew it. A regular security campaign is conducted by the traffic department, which uses an application to either block or cancel these driving licenses.Â
Major General Jamal Al Sayegh, the undersecretary of the Traffic and Operations department, has issued instructions not to be lenient in granting driving licenses to expats, and to ensure that all conditions are met, such as Job Title, Profession, Salary, University Degree, and Home Country Driving License.
As a result, the percentage of expats obtaining driving licenses has decreased by 50% in the current year. In order to ensure the safety of the driver and others on the road, driving licenses are only granted to those who pass theory and practical tests.
