A Kuwaiti Virologist Discovers A Way To Treat Covid-19 Infections
Has Kuwait dazzled the world after one of its sons found a way to treat COVID-19 viral infections? Ibrahim Al-Masoud is a young Kuwaiti specialist in virology and a doctoral researcher at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom. It is a matter of fate that his last year of study coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic prevalent throughout the world, reports Al-Qabas daily. Al-Masoud is considered as one of the few Kuwaitis who are working on research related to COVID-19 virus.
In an interview, he revealed that he is working with his supervisor on a doctoral program concerning the treatment for the COVID-19 virus by preventing its movement and its hiding among the body’s cells so that it is exposed to the immune system in preparation for fighting it.
Al-Masoud stressed that they have reached preliminary results and the treatment is expected to see the light within two months.
He explained that the drug he is working on will hit the virus envelope, making it unable to hide in the cells, so that it will appear to the immune system, which will resist it. Deadly viruses escape from the immune system into the cells. If they appear on the cell membrane or in the blood, the white blood cells will be able to attack, eliminate and expose them to the immune system to resist. This is what happens with flu and similar viruses, so that the body treats itself.
Al-Masoud stated that his experiments are now being conducted to prevent the attachment of the virus envelope with any part of a cell, adding that if this link is prevented, the virus will be visible on the cell membrane, and not inside, which makes the immune system able to fight it, just like other viruses.
