74,000 Government Workers Registered On Expired Visas
There are around 74,000 workers on government contracts that have expired visas and are yet to be amended, Al Rai reported.
Back in September, when the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) began dealing with the files of expired government workers’ contracts, there were 159,000. Since then, they were able to resolve 85,000 of those workers’ expired visas by either transferring their work permits or the individual left Kuwait.
The Deputy Director of PAM for Protection Affairs, Mubarak Al Azmi, said that the government agencies are in contact with contractors of unfinished government projects to take action and settle the visas of workers registered under said contractors.
Legal measures
Al Azmi added that in the case that they fail to comply within a month period, PAM shall be notified. He clarified that PAM will follow up on the matter with the relevant government agencies and legal measures have been taken to address the issues of expired contracts.
As for government contracts, a well informed source told Al Rai that around 850 governmental contracts have expired so far.
Al Azmi pointed out that they are currently coordinating with the Central Agency for Public Tenders to set a condition that requires bidders to submit a clearance certificate issued by PAM in their bid document. This is to ensure that there are no suspensions on their prior stalled government contacts and to enforce transparency.
