60% Of ‘waste’ Materials On The Beaches Is Plastic

06 March 2021 Kuwait

Several volunteer teams are continuing to combat the phenomenon of the presence of waste materials and garbage in several beaches in Kuwait Bay, with the cooperation of the state agencies concerned with the environment, including Kuwait Dive Team, and the Environment Public Authority (EPA).

They have been sorting through and studying the type of waste materials collected from seven beaches recently, and discovered that plastic was the most predominant among the waste materials in these areas, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The joint efforts between Kuwait Dive Team and EPA seek to determine the volume of waste being spread on the coasts and beaches. It begins with the implementation of a process to sort through and study the waste materials scattered in seven different places in the northern region to understand the level of environmental threat resulting from it.

The joint environmental efforts include studying the rainwater streams and the volume of waste carried by such streams, understanding the environmental damage and the level of resultant threat to the marine environment, preparing and submitting special reports, and setting necessary steps to exert more efforts to preserve the marine and coastal environment.
