265 Company Files Transferred To Prosecution For Human Trafficking And Residency Issues
The Minister of Affairs and Minister of State for Economic Affairs, Maryam Al-Aqeel, revealed that in the last 10 years 4,497 government contracts were concluded and 419,421 expats were holding residency under government project visa.
While answering questions on the number of expats who violated residency law who were on government project visas, there have been various reasons behind this, such as companies have not amended their status in renewing the residency or deporting them. There are 28,748 workers who have expired residency  and are on government project visas.
Human Trafficking
There have been number of companies who have exploited government contracts for human trafficking where the ministry have referred these companies to public prosecution to take legal measures against them. Number of suspicious companies were also been referred for selling visas. 19 company files were referred for prosecution 16 files were referred by Ministry of Interior, 33 files were referred by investigative department of residency affairs and 197 files were referred by Public Authority of Manpower.
Employees strikes
With regard to the reasons for the ongoing strikes of many expatriate workers the ministry has penalized these companies for breaching contract terms with the workers reports Al Anba. The main reason for workers to go on strike is due to non payment of salaries during the corona crisis. The complaints were received and action has been taken.
The employers were summoned to settle the dispute of financial dues, noting that emergency teams were formed to settle striking labor disputes. There were a total of 182 strikes. 3,502 government contracts were suspended due to salary issues and 1,471 suspensions were carried out on subcontracting companies implementing government contracts for non payment of salaries.627 contracts were suspended as the government contracts were ended and they failed to amend the employment contract files.
