27 November 2022 International

Within the context of an international police (Interpol) operation to dismantle a Serbian criminal organization, the Belgian judiciary has announced that 115 kilograms of cocaine have been seized.

AFP reports that nine people were arrested for the crime - five in Belgium, two in the Netherlands and one in Luxembourg - according to a statement issued by the Belgian Public Prosecution Office.

At the time of the confiscation, a warehouse search was taking place in Arlon, south-eastern Belgium. According to the prosecution, the suspects hid bags of cocaine in concrete slabs in order to facilitate their export.

"No less than 103 bags, each weighing more than one kilogram, were seized," or about 115 kilograms, worth an estimated 11.5 million euros.

In the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Serbia, raids and searches were conducted simultaneously. Approximately 100 members of various police agencies participated in this operation, which "aims to dismantle a Serbian criminal organization active in the international cocaine trade."
