According to Muhammad Abdullah Al-Kandari, a member of Kuwait National Petroleum Company's Workers' Syndicate, the union has repeatedly requested that the company investigate the quality of foreign technical workers in the maintenance department, and has warned that unskilled workers can cause unimaginable accidents.

Kuwaiti fire fighters put out a fire at the Mina al-Ahmadi oil refinery on Jan. 14, according to Kuwait National Petroleum Company's Twitter account. In Kuwait, two workers were killed and 10 others were critically injured after a fire broke out during maintenance work at a major oil refinery, according to KNPC. (AP)

According to Al-Kandari, "Unfortunately, what we had warned of has occurred - successive explosions and fires, some of which resulted in deaths caused by less experienced foreign workers, and contractor companies lacking the expertise and technical resources necessary to manage such an important sector."
