Travelers With Israeli Passports Should Be Checked

20 November 2023 Kuwait

Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, has been the subject of a parliamentary inquiry by parliamentarian Hamad Al-Olayan, regarding the Ministry's protocols preventing individuals with Israeli citizenship, holding Gulf or foreign passports, from entering Kuwait, reports Al-Rai daily. He asked whether the Ministry of Interior has a defined strategy to strengthen Kuwait's security and enforce laws prohibiting normalization with Israelis.

His inquiry focused on measures to prevent individuals with Israeli nationality from entering, regardless of their passports or nationalities. He also sought details on the mechanisms employed by the Ministry in this regard.

Al-Olayan also requested information on the steps taken by the Ministry of Interior to enforce Kuwaiti legislation against normalization with Zionists. Since Kuwait has declared war on the Zionist forces occupying Palestinian and Arab lands, he asked about the verification processes to ensure that foreigners entering Kuwait do not possess Israeli citizenship along with their other nationalities. For verification, he asked whether modern technologies are used or if the Ministry relies solely on received information.

Further, the parliamentarian asked if there were any instances between 2003 and 2023 in which individuals with foreign passports and nationalities entered Kuwait, only to find out that they held Israeli citizenship. He requested documentation supporting the Ministry’s actions in such cases. Al-Olayan also sought information on Kuwait’s stance regarding the unified Gulf tourist visa project.

Specifically, he asked whether the Kuwaiti government unconditionally approved, refused to implement, or expressed reservations about the unified visa. He sought clarity on whether Kuwait intends to be part of the Gulf countries implementing this visa and when it is slated for implementation in Kuwait. Concluding his inquiry, Al-Olayan addressed circulating reports on social media suggesting Kuwait’s reservations about the unified Gulf tourist visa due to specific security considerations preventing the acceptance of certain nationalities received by other Gulf countries. Clarification was sought regarding the accuracy of such information.
