There Have Been Over 160 Violations Since Ramadan Began
For the purpose of monitoring and removing violations during the collection of donations during Ramadan, the Ministry of Social Affairs formed field inspection teams. A total of 160 violations were detected during the first week of Ramadan, ranging from 30 kiosks that violated the collection of worn-out clothing to 130 advertisement hoardings, including 100 for private companies and 20 for charities.
Additionally, 10 advertisements were hung on the walls of mosques in violation of the regulations of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, which prohibited putting advertisements on mosque walls from either inside or outside. According to the sources the Ministry of Social Affairs in coordination with inspectors from the Kuwait Municipality removed the violating “kiosks”, in addition to removing the advertisements from mosque that call for breaking the fast.
Regarding the violations of the commercial companies, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry was asked to take action, and those in charge of charity work were urged to adhere to the controls and requirements regulating the donation project in order to avoid legal repercussions.
Observe
Among the sources' advice was to not give money to entities that violate the law, to verify that they are licensed and approved by the Ministry, to ensure donations reach those who deserve them, and to avoid using the money for matters that are far from its main objective, stressing at the same time that “cash” donations are forbidden inside mosques and can only be made through bank deductions or through Knet deductions.
A source in the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs informed Al-Rai daily that charities that collect donations in mosques during Ramadan follow the rules for collection, as no complaints have been filed that constitute a violation of the established controls so far.
So far, those authorized to collect donations have followed the organizational schedule approved by the undersecretary of the Ministry of Awqaf, according to the sources, adding that coordination between cooperatives and mosques is integrated, and the Ministry of Social Affairs monitors the process. According to the sources, there has been a specific period for cooperatives to visit mosques, which is five days in a governorate during the holy month, explaining that the regulation came to limit the presence of more than one charity association.
