‘the Law Prohibits All Car Sheds’

Ayed Al-Qahtani, the Director of the Violations Removal Department within Kuwait Municipality, clarified that there are currently no car sheds within the city because all existing licenses have been suspended since 2014 as well as renewals for licenses issued in the past will no longer be granted. His department undertook extensive field tours of various State properties for several months to uncover violations, al-Qahtani told the daily.

As a result of its consistent issuance of warnings and removal of violations, the Department has succeeded in reducing the number of car umbrellas. People who place umbrellas on power transformer fences, specifically, are breaking the law and endangering their lives, he said. The Ministry of Electricity and Water considers this kind of practice to be an obstacle to its work in an emergency. Parking cars at a minimum of four meters from electricity transformers is recommended."
