The Kuwaiti Navy Welcomes The Visit Of An Indian Frigate

Commodore Hazaa Al-Alati welcomed on Tuesday the docking of Indian frigate INS Teg at Kuwaiti shores as a sign of the countries' close ties.

He said the country (Kuwait) adopted the Indian rupee as its official currency until 1961, when our forefathers began trading with India using wooden ships.

Kuwait Navy plans to attend exercises hosted by their Indian counterpart early next year - an event that has been ongoing since 1995, according to the senior military officer.

India's Ambassador to Kuwait Sibi George said the vessel would contribute to maritime security in the region and the Gulf of Aden during his speech.

Moreover, the ambassador highlighted his country's commitment to enhancing maritime cooperation with its partners, especially in the Indian Ocean, to ensure the security of trade and shipping routes.

India and Kuwait share warm relations on a number of levels, he said, hailing Kuwait as an important partner in the fields of economics, energy and health care.

After India dispatched a team of health workers to Kuwait during the COVID pandemic, Kuwait provided vaccines and oxygen to India, which in turn provided vaccines and oxygen to India.
