The Philippine Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) applauds the Kuwait Appeal Court's decision to uphold the conviction of the suspect in the tragic murder case of overseas Filipino worker Jullebee Ranara.
In a statement issued on Wednesday night, DMW officer in charge Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac expressed satisfaction with the Gulf state's appellate court, which upheld the 16-year imprisonment sentence against the accused – one year for driving without a license and 15 years for murder. Cacdac assured the Ranara family of continued support and assistance, as directed by President Marcos.
Cacdac further conveyed that he held a virtual meeting with the Ranara family via Zoom, providing them with a firsthand update on the developments in Kuwait. Additionally, he instructed the Migrant Workers Office in Kuwait (MWO-Kuwait) to collaborate with retained legal counsel in initiating a civil action for damages against the convicted perpetrator's father.
Meanwhile, Undersecretary and Officer-in-Charge of the Department of Migrant Workers, HANS LEO J. CACDAC, issued a statement affirming the Kuwait Appeal Court's decision. The court upheld the guilty verdict and sentence of 16 years imprisonment, with 1 year for driving without a license and 15 years for murder.
