The French Decide To Kill The Stranded Whale

30 May 2022 International

Attempts to take the whale to sea failed, and it became "very sick" as a result. The French authorities ended the life of the whale after weeks of being stuck in the Seine River.

In the past few days, a team of experts has used sonar technology to help a killer whale return to its natural habitat in salt water after apparent sighting in the Seine River, which flows through Paris.

"The group of experts unanimously concluded the only possible solution was the euthanasia of the animal," authorities said in a statement. The killer whale was spotted between the northern coastal city of Le Havre in Normandy and the city of Rouen in the interior, following its first sighting on May 16.

A sound analysis of those recordings revealed that they sounded like pain cries, and that the animal appeared to be afflicted by a critical health condition.

Marine mammals are increasingly susceptible to an infection called wormwood, according to sources.
